Study shows Homeopathy Superior to Conventional Treatments
The June 2005 issue of Complementary Therapies in Medicine, an international, peer-reviewed journal, published a study that was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of homeopathy versus conventional treatment in routine care. This German study showed homeopathic treatment to be superior to conventional treatments across a range of conditions and with similar cost levels. The analyses of 493 patients (315 adults, 178 children) indicated greater improvement in patients’ assessments after homeopathic treatment versus conventional treatment. Over all cost showed no significant differences between both treatment groups. The study concludes that patients seeking homeopathic treatment had a better outcome overall compared with patients on conventional treatment.

London Cancer Center Revamps Offerings
The National Health Service (NHS) oncology department in London will link up with the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital, which reopened in June after extensive refurbishment. The revamped hospital will be integrated with the mainstream oncology department at the nearby University College Hospital. Described as “One of the best-kept secrets of the NHS,” is the hospital’s complementary cancer service that offers Homeopathy, acupuncture, massage, and herbal treatments to referred patients-all for free. A recent European wide study found that, on average complementary and alternative medicine is used by a third of cancer patients in Europe.

Homeopathy Significantly Improves Attention
A controlled trial concluded that homeopathy has positive effects in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). 83 children aged 6 to 16 years who were diagnosed with ADHD participated in the study. Neuropsychological testing was performed prior to the homeopathic treatment, prior to the random, double-blind phase, and at the end of every test phase.
Double-blind studies in homeopathy are considered a difficult matter. So this study used a unique approach. Prior to the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial, the children were treated with individually prescribed homeopathic medicines. Once measurable improvement was reached with homeopathic medicine, 62 children were referred back to a university hospital to participate in the crossover trail. Using random, double-blind methodology, children received either a homeopathic remedy or a placebo. The study published in the European Journal of Pediatrics (July 27, 2005 online edition), suggests scientific evidence of Homeopathy’s effectiveness in treating ADHD, particularly in areas of behavioral and cognitive functions.
